High-order non-reflecting boundary scheme for time-dependent waves

چکیده
A new non-reflecting boundary scheme is proposed for time-dependent wave problems in unbounded domains. The linear time-dependent wave equation, with or without a dispersive term, is considered in a semi-infinite wave guide. The infinite domain is truncated via an artificial boundary B, and a high-order non-reflecting boundary condition (NRBC) is imposed onB. Then the problem is solved numerically in the finite domain bounded byB. The new boundary scheme is based on a reformulation of the sequence of NRBCs proposed by Higdon. In contrast to the original formulation of the Higdon conditions, the scheme constructed here does not involve any high derivatives beyond second order. This is made possible by introducing special auxiliary variables on B. As a result, the new NRBCs can easily be used up to any desired order. They can be incorporated in a finite element or a finite difference scheme; in the present paper the latter is used. The parameters appearing in the NRBC are chosen automatically via a special procedure. Numerical examples concerning a semi-infinite wave guide are used to demonstrate the performance of the new method. Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

High-order non-reflecting boundary conditions for dispersive waves
Problems of linear time-dependent dispersive waves in an unbounded domain are considered. The infinite domain is truncated via an artificial boundary B, and a high-order non-reflecting boundary condition (NRBC) is imposed on B. Then the problem is solved by a finite difference (FD) scheme in the finite domain bounded by B. The sequence of NRBCs proposed by Higdon is used. However, in contrast t...
متن کاملHigh-order non-reflecting boundary conditions for dispersive waves in polar coordinates using spectral elements
High-order non-reflecting boundary conditions are introduced to create a finite computational space and for the solution of dispersive waves using a spectral element formulation with high-order time integration. Numerical examples are used to demonstrate the synergy of using high-order spatial, time, and boundary discretization. We show that by balancing all numerical errors involved, high-orde...

متن کاملImplementation of Non-reflecting Boundaries in a Space-time Finite Element Method for Structural Acoustics
This paper examines the development and implementation of second-order accurate non-reflecting boundary conditions in a time-discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for structural acoustics in unbounded domains. The formulation is based on a multi-field space-time variational equation for both the acoustic fluid and elastic solid together with their interaction. This approach to the modeli...

In this talk, we devise a new Runge-Kutta Discontinuous Galerkin (RKDG) method that achieves full high-order convergence in time and space while keeping the timestep proportional to the spatial mesh-size. To this end, we derive an extension to non-autonomous linear systems of the mth-order, m-stage strong stability preserving Runge-Kutta (SSP-RK) scheme with low storage described in Gottlieb et...
